Adding some Christmas hashtags at the very end of your social media posts during this festive season will ensure that they reach as many of your potential students as possible!

Try to be specific, don’t add just #MerryChristmas or some other general hashtags because your post will get completely lost in the sea of content created by people who aren’t linked at all to either the language learning industry or expat life in general.

Why You Should Start Crafting Your Own Hashtags for the Holidays

Hashtags are a great way to get more engagement on social media. Hashtags are phrases that are prefixed with a hash (#) sign. These hashtags help your posts get discovered by others who have the same interests. This is particularly helpful during the holidays when people are looking for topics to discuss with their friends and family members on social media.

How can you create relevant hashtags for your language school this Christmas? Step-by-step instructions.

1.Search for #[yourcity]christmas, eg. #amsterdamchristmas on the social platform of your choice.

2. Add #[yourcity]christmas2021, eg. #parischristmas2021 (please note there might not be many results yet - it might be worth investing in this hashtag!)

3. Take “winter” or “Christmas” written in your language and add the name of your city or “2021” (or both), eg. #noelparis2021, #amsterdamkerstfeest2021, etc.

4. Make sure the hashtags you’ve created actually exist - go to the browser of the social platform you’re planning to use and search for them (as we’ve shown you above).

5. Check out whether the hashtags you want to use are appropriate. Meaning, when you browse them, what kind of content pops up?

6. Open the pictures that showed up in your initial search and check what other local, Christmassy, expaty hashtags they’re using.

Example: from our initial search for #rotterdamchristmas we got two additional hashtags we can use: #christmasrotterdam #xmasrotterdam
